Apr 25 - Anzac Day

It was nice to be able to wake up at Mr Smart's and not have to rush off, and a real luxury to be able to spend time together mid-week since having given up my fortnightly Friday off.  For a while after waking I just lay in bed listening to the sounds of the two Mr Smarts watching the Anzac Day ceremonies on the television in the lounge room and thinking about my departed grandparents, both in the armed forces during WWII.  Though the war killed neither, they still made sacrifices and though I don't believe in an afterlife, I still somehow hope that cosmically speaking, they are together now.
Mr Smart brought me in a coffee and I enjoyed it while I stayed snuggled under the covers and read my book a while longer while he wrote.  After sufficient quantities were written, the idea of brunch was mooted so we headed down High Street to The Old Fire Station Cafe.  We've been there a few times now but today was a lovely warm autumn day so we sat outside.  Even the outside of the place is decorated with old firey things.

For breakfast I had the savoury french toast with bacon and maple syrup and two hash browns.  It was delicious.  Their serves are quite generous and it's quite a friendly and relaxing place to sit and enjoy the morning.

We walked home again after a fine repast and continued on with blogging, reading and writing as well as watching some episodes of old school original series Star Trek.  It was fun to re-watch the oldies with Captain Kirk and his stilted dialogue delivery.  Eventually the next block of writing was completed and Mr Smart suggested we go for a walk to look at what we deem 'house porn', ie. looking at all the beautiful houses we like but could only afford if we won Tattslotto.
It was a beautiful day for a walk and we went up and down the streets of Preston wandering any which way we pleased.  We found a house with an Aussie grotesque, a couple of little easement paths that led to an unexpectedly large park and two houses, nay mansions... that we would have loved to have seen inside.  We saw front lawn replete with live lawn mowers, a beautiful Mosque and a group of birds that I laughed and referred to as 'the rat pack' (starlings, sparrows and pigeons all feeding together).

A group of people at work including me have tickets in tonight's Powerball.  Who knows.. I could be a millionaire as I sit here typing.  I know which house I'll be paying a visit to if I do suddenly find myself in the money.  This one!

Our walk ended up at Woolworths and we went in to grab a few things that Mr Smart needed.  I was sort of loosely planning to go home after our walk but he tempted me to stay with promises of homemade pizza.  It was delicious!  Mine was a Khobz Lite Flatbread spread with Leggos Pizza Sauce then topped with kangaroo salami, spinach leaves, mushrooms, blush tomatoes, black sliced olives, shredded ham, fresh buffalo mozzarella, pizza plus cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan blend) and a little diced bacon on top!  While it was cooking I also ate three green olives marinated in tequila, lime and chilli with the leftover fresh buffalo mozzarella and blush tomatoes.

We watched an episode of Supernatural while we ate which was fun, but inevitably it came time for me to head home and get ready for work tomorrow.  Despite Mr Smart's protestations, the simple fact remained that I had no clean clothes there to wear to work tomorrow, otherwise I might just have been convinced to stay.  At least there is only one more work day to go then it's the weekend!
I'm looking forward to this weekend.  I'm going to make dinner for Mr Smart and I on Saturday and on Sunday Captain Cupcake and I are going to the movies at The Astor!  They are showing a Labyrinth/Ghostbusters double-feature!  If you've taken tomorrow off work then enjoy your extra-long weekend you lucky sods, but if not, enjoy the fact that at least tomorrow is Friday!  Goodnight all.
