Jan 31 - Happy Fulliversary!

Merri Creek, Coburg Lake Reserve

Today was Mr Smart and my first anniversary, or fulliversary as he put it (a reference to our halfiversary of six months ago).  To celebrate I packed a picnic lunch and we headed off to Coburg Lake Reserve, the park where we first met.
We found a picnic table in the shade by the lake on which to lay out our feast and settled in amongst the seagulls, pigeons, black ducks, moorhens, swans and native wood ducks.
Veggie sticks, hard-boiled eggs, stuffed bell peppers, roasted garlic hummus, spinach dip, smoked salmon quiches, sugar free soft drinks and grapes.  None of it was given to seagulls but we certainly didn't eat it all either, there is still some in the fridge now!  A wasp floated around the table for a while, presumably on a scouting mission, but we used the Tupperware lids to shield the mouths on our open soft drink cans.

As we ate we saw an unusual sight, a heron in full flight, swooping about at something like a martin does.  There were martins around too in fact.  As we were finishing lunch, with tummies burgeoning, Mr Smart spotted a black duck coming out of the lake with two fluffy ducklings in tow.  He followed them around like a regular paparazzo while I tidied away the picnic things.

We put the things away in the car and then went for an explore around the park.  We found some really awesome stuff!  For starters, we found a giant twister board!

Around the board there was also a collection of chunky wood carvings painted in all manner of ways.  One was a curled up dragon, two others were painted like beanbag-style chairs, another a fire place with a surreal pendulum clock on the reverse.  There was a pentagon of swings facing inwards which made me wonder if children would end up hitting each other mid swing.  There was a low level maze that Mr Smart cheated on, using his height to his just stride over the walls.

The most awesome thing we found though, was the flying fox!  You can click here and click here to see us being big kids.  After much fun and giggles, further down the track we found an adult 'playground'.  Outdoor exercise equipment, a rowing machine, stepper, cross trainer and weight machines that work on using your own body weight as resistance.  It was a pretty awesome thing to have provided free for public use.  We continued on around the track and slowly made our way back to the car.

I didn't get a lot of sleep last night and after such a big meal, Mr Smart and I were both a little on the lethargic side, so by the time we got back to his place it was off to the land of nod with both of us.  There is nothing quite as peaceful and warm as afternoon nap.  Even Pizza Cat settled atop a box of paper and dozed silently along with us.

We awoke after an hour or so and mucked about on the computers a bit before deciding that a trip to the chicken shop for dinner might be a good idea.  Yummy!  Chicken Souvlaki followed by a 50g Whittaker's Peanut Slab.  After dinner we watched Magic Mike of all things.  It wasn't a bad movie but it was nothing spectacular, and that goes for Channing Tatum too, shiny rippling muscles bulging out of every pore are just not my style.

I have an important meeting in the city tomorrow at 4pm.  Everyone wish me luck!
All will be revealed once I know how things pan out.
