Nov 6 - Melbourne Cup Day

Today it was the race that stops a nation.  So did I stop?  Well yes, I did take five minutes out of my day at 3pm to watch the race.  I did have horses in the sweep after all, not that I can remember which ones.  But more to the point I wanted to write down the winners and the wooden spooner as I'm responsible for doling out the sweep prizes at work tomorrow!  Green Moon, ridden by Brett Prebble, took first prize today.  He came out of nowhere!  Poor Ethiopia ran dead last.
So what did I do with the rest of the day?  Well I did at long last get back on the cross trainer.  I had my breakfast and I can't say I was overly enthused about getting back on it, but of course Mr Smart gently reminded me that while I may well miss the couch potato lifestyle, I don't miss the 18kg that I've lost as a result of giving it up.  So on I got and away I went.  Buffy managed to get her body back from Faith (Phew!) and all was right in Sunnydale once more.
After that I got myself cleaned up and dressed in comfy clothes ie. ones that I do not leave the house in, and set about the rest of the days activities.  I had of course, grand plans of cleaning and chores and that's all well and good but I didn't really feel like it so instead  I made lunch and hunkered down on the couch to re-watch Brave.  It had been a little dark on Mr Smart's screen in parts so I decided a second viewing was in order.  Once I polished off my lunch, I also managed to give myself a mini-pedicure.
I still didn't feel much like doing chores so instead  I sat at my desk and chatted idly to Earnest and Lord Koshington while I addressed and wrote out Christmas cards.  Yes, I may well be getting ahead of myself there but from the perspective of a salaried employee, it's only two pays to go!  Of course sitting at my desk eventually led to watching episodes of QI on youtube.  I love Stephen Fry, Alan Davies, the guest panelists and all of the facts I learn on that show.

  Today's food and exercise were:

  • Breakfast was two slices of toasted Bürgen Wholemeal & Seeds Bread, one piece spread with Rosella Reduced-Joule Fruit Chutney and the other topped with one slice of Bega So Light Tasty Cheese.  Sandwiched between these two was two fried eggs.  I had with this, a small cup of Rosie Cranberry Lite drink and a white-flesh peach.
  • Exercise was 41 minutes on the cross trainer and  I also did some of my back exercises though I confess I find them easier to remember at work, especially now that my back is feeling a lot better.
  • Lunch was dips and crudités!  I had about 100g of Yumi's Hummus and about 70g of leftover Yoghurt & Eggplant dip from Sunday's trip to the Kebab Joint and I served them with half a red capsicum, two sticks of celery, a whole carrot and a whole Lebanese cucumber, all cut up into sticks.
  • Afternoon snack was 250g of strawberries, a slightly unripe banana and a peeled kiwi fruit all cut up into bite sized chunks.  I like fruit cut up into chunks.  I still won't eat an apple whole.
  • Dinner was 162g raw weight extra trim porterhouse steak, pan-fried with a teaspoonful of Masterfoods Australian Mustard and served with about 116g of Baby Pak Choi Stir-Fry mix with Red Kelly's Sweet Chilli & Lime dressing and a serve of crispy sweet potato fries.
  • Dessert was 20g Lindt 85% Cocoa dark chocolate.
  • Blood sugar two hours after eating was 5.8

I have reviewed the results of tonight's OzLotto $100Million draw and alas I am not yet a multi-millionaire.  As a result of this rather unfortunate turn of events, I thought I'd share with you a number of things that will now regrettably not happen (in the order I thought of them while fantasizing about it this afternoon).
  1. Exorbitant amounts of money will not yet be spent at JB HiFi Forest Hill.
  2. My house on Rucker's Hill overlooking the city will not yet be bought.
  3. My friends and family will have to make do with their current houses and cars.
  4. A new high school and university scholarship will not be set up.
  5. I will not be going to university to study anything that takes my fancy.
  6. I will not be having an enormous party in the Crown Casino penthouse.
  7. Mr Smart and I will not be eagerly traversing the planet.
  8. There will be no investment income to live off for the remainder of my days.
  9. Countless charities will have to go without my lavish support.
  10. A magical Disney's Beauty & The Beast Library will not yet be built.
So there you have it folks, the world could've been a brighter place had my numbers come up, but it was not to be.  How would you have spent it?
  Jess
