Dec 12 - O Tannenbaum!

Mint Lindor Ball
       O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
       Wie treu sind deine blätter!
Du grünst nicht nur zur Sommerzeit,
Nein, auch im Winter, wenn es schneit.
       O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum,
       Wie treu sind deine blätter!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
       How lovely are thy branches!
Not only green when summer's here
But in the coldest time of year.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
       How lovely are thy branches!

I now have a present at my house.  Mr Smart saw fit to torment me by letting me take my Christmas present home way before I'm allowed to open it!  Unfortunately, that darn penguin of ours is showing no sign whatsoever of shirking his guard duties.  It still feels like a book but it's such a hefty tome I can't for the life of me think of any titles of similar size.  With a present in hand (or rather 'under penguin') it was clear that the Christmas tree was now required.
I have a 'fake' tree which is in fact a five part MDF cut out template that turns into a small but sturdy frame.  It was actually a hand-me-down from work but I feel that it suits my life and style very well.  I dragged it down from the top of the wardrobe along with my storage box full of treasured ornaments.  Having such a small tree does make me very careful about ornament acquisition and many of them have special sentimental meaning to me.
The big blue orb you can see at the bottom which has my name painted on it in red glitter was a gift many years ago from MinxB and BaconBones.  The beige disc in the middle comes all the way from Lexington, Massachussetts and is a reminder of Teddy and the happy time I spent there.  You might have spotted two gold coloured computer fan covers on the right!  A reminder of how much my time online both means and costs.
There are three new items on the tree this year.  I bought new tinsel to give the tree its lovely green sparkly foliage as last year in looked a bit more spartan than even I would've liked!  I bought a new bauble which has a Sturt Desert Pea painted on it in representation of my South Australian origins, its on the lower left a little hidden in this photo.  And last but by no means least, my Tassie devil ornament purchased on The Spirit of Tasmania.  He's just next to Pengi in front of a cream and gold heart.

Apart from set up the Christmas tree it was a bit of a nothing day.  I was ridiculously tempted to gorge myself on sweet sugary carb-loaded goodness this afternoon.  Nothing would've made me happier than a slice of Mum's lardy cake with butter.  Lardy cake, just so you know, is as bad for you as it sounds and yes it has lard in it.  Lots and lots of lard.
I didn't give in to the craving today.  I had an apple and the craving passed.  Of course when I got home I didn't feel much like cooking so then I craved pizza and/or pasta.  Luckily I took the opportunity to learn how to use the defrost function on my microwave instead and had a serve of my homemade bolognese instead.  Jess - 2, Cravings - 0.  I won't win them all this month, but I won today.

  Today's food was:

  • Breakfast was a Cheesymite Scroll from Baker's Delight.
  • Lunch was a Mission Mediterranean Herb wrap spread with Kraft Light French Onion Dip then topped with 120g Champagne Leg Ham and baby spinach.  This was followed by 170g of fresh cherries!
  • Afternoon snack was a Pink Lady apple.
  • Dinner was bolognese sauce with 45g dry weight pasta spirals and a sprinkle of Mainland Tasty Light Finely Grated cheese.
  • Dessert was 20g Lindt 85% Cocoa dark chocolate.
  • Today's advent calendar Lindor Ball was mint-flavoured milk chocolate.

This time next week I will be on my way to the airport to pick up Gub and partner!  I'm excited about it but also freaking out about the state of my house.  I did some cleaning tonight but not nearly enough.  There is no way I'll get it all done but hopefully if I get a few things done every night between now and then it will at least not look like it needs biohazard warning stickers.
  Time for bed and book!
  Jess
